When the African Son Tom Mboya was Killed. Maybe Leonard Mambo Mbotela saw a different body. In his book which is being serialised in the Nation , he narrates.
“We arrived at the scene immediately and saw a body lying next to a Mercedes Benz car. It was a man in jeans trousers and a T-shirt
“I looked at the body keenly and told the people in the crowd, “huyu ni Waziri Tom Mboya ameuawa” (This is Cabinet Minister Tom Mboya who has been killed!).
Mboya was not even wearing jeans trousers and a t-shirt as claimed. He wore formal trousers , a white shirt and a blazer.
Also, he was not killed next to his Mercedes Benz, but on the doorway of Chani’s Chemist where he stood biding farewell to Mrs Chani. Mrs Chani had held the door in such a way that passers-by could not tell the person she was talking to.
But as Mboya made a step to leave, the gunman fired, with the force of the bullet pushing his body back into shop.
According to Mrs Chani’s own account, she dragged Mboya further into the shop closed the door and tried administering first aid until Dr Rahim Chaudrey arrived to perform mouth to mouth resuscitation.
