The committee continuously works to enhance the program by utilizing best practice for instructional design and adult learning methodology.

Q. What changes have been made to RigPass to enhance the program?
A work group under IADC’s HSE Committee has been working over the past year to revise RigPass to meet the changing needs of the industry while utilizing best practice for instructional design and adult learning methodology.
The RigPass curriculum has been revised and learning objectives added to create an additional layer of standardization in content delivered across the industry. The work group has focused on the delivery method of the course and incorporated sample facilitated interactive activities throughout the content.

Q. What is the difference in SafeLandUSA and SafeLand, Inc.?
SafeLandUSA: SafeLandUSA was an Operator-led industry committee that originated as an industry representative and volunteer committee. IADC was one of its founding members. IADC was also an approved accrediting body and partner to SafeLandUSA with contributions from our Accreditation team ranging from development of board bylaws to curriculum development.
SafeLand, Inc.: SafeLand, Inc. is NOT a program but a board. Board members Veriforce and ETC have safety orientations, endorsed by SafeLand, Inc. (similar to IADC’s RigPass orientation). The board governance has changed since the business was registered as SafeLand, Inc. as of May 2020.
Q. Why is IADC no longer offering the SafeLandUSA endorsement?
Following the decision to transition SafeLandUSA from a voluntary, industry-representative group to the May 12, 2020, registration of SafeLand, Inc., IADC worked diligently to develop alignment with the new SafeLand, Inc. structure. The goal was to continue as a partner/contributor to the ongoing improvement of safety curriculum, accreditation of training programs and instructors, and the overall increased wellbeing of the energy workforce.
IADC’s core values remain to support our industry’s workforce with programs that are developed based on industry need and not driven by commercial gain. We continue to advocate for programs that focus on safety, competency, and value for our members.
Together with direction from IADC Onshore Advisory Panel Leadership, we determined that IADC was unable to align with the new SafeLand Inc. organizational structure and would no longer participate in the development or support of SafeLand, Inc. programs.
Q. Will employees be required to take more than one safety orientation?
It remains IADC’s goal to advocate for what is best for our members. We remain focused on having one safety orientation that is accepted on a global scale, RigPass. A workgroup consisting of IADC HSE committee participants has been diligently working to align RigPass with other safety orientation standards such as Basin United’s fundamental safety orientation course. This allows for one orientation to be delivered through IADC’s RigPass program that meets and/or exceeds requirements set by other organizations with safety orientation programs.
Q. Does RigPass meet SafeLandUSA and SafeLand Inc. requirements?
Yes, RigPass meets and exceeds the newest SafeLand, Inc. requirements for a safety orientation. A cross-reference map of RigPass program standards to SafeLand, Inc. curriculum requirements and Basin United curriculum requirements is available for training providers as a resource.
This can be requested by emailing email@example.com.
Q. Is there a need to replace previously issued cards containing the SafeLandUSA endorsement?
No, cards previously issued are still valid and verifiable through the IADC database. The training delivered at the time of card issuance was SafeLandUSA endorsed and the card will remain valid with that SafeLandUSA endorsement.
Q. Are RigPass records forwarded to third parties?
Yes, IADC sends training records to ISNet and retains records in IADC’s accreditation database. IADC records and those of our third parties are GDPR compliant.
Q. Is there a transition plan for RigPass without the extra endorsement?
We will transition currently accredited training providers to the new RigPass (with onshore or offshore endorsement) beginning January 1, 2021. Companies meeting the new program requirements may also request the Basin United endorsement at that time.
New companies seeking IADC accreditation for their safety orientation program, meeting RigPass requirements, have 2 options: Obtain RigPass accreditation or RigPass accreditation with Basin United endorsement. They can also request both onshore and/or offshore module(s) for the program.
Q. Do I need a new RigPass accreditation certificate for my program?
Once IADC determines a cutoff date for use of the SafeLandUSA endorsement, your accreditation program should remove use of the SafeLandUSA logo. The IADC database will automatically update your accreditation certificate based on that change.
Q. My company has a third-party audit scheduled. Do we proceed with the audit?
Yes, accredited training providers scheduled for 3rd party audit will be audited to their RigPass program requirements. The audit will not include SafeLandUSA or SafeGulf requirements since those specific endorsements do not impact the quality of your program.
- Training providers will remain on their same audit cycle and be audited to the newly revised RigPass curriculum at the following audit cycle.
Q. What will happen to SafeGulf?
The SafeGulf Board was an industry-led Operator board. In the 2nd Quarter of 2020, the Operator board voted to disband and no longer recognize SafeGulf as an industry requirement. ISNet sent out a communication to their clients stating that SafeGulf is no longer a requirement. Training providers with a SafeGulf endorsement can continue to deliver the safety orientation with the offshore endorsement until the end of the year. We will transition accredited training providers to the new RigPass with offshore endorsement beginning January 1, 2021.
