Rongo, also known as Rongo town, is a Kenyan settlement in Migori County.Due to its enormous gold mineral deposits, it has drawn many investors over the years. Its total population was 82,066 in 2009, of which 12,355 lived in the urban center.

Uhuru Kenyatta, granted Rongo University (RU), formerly known as Rongo University College, a charter to become a full-fledged university on October 7, 2016. The Rongo University Charter, which was adopted on October 7, 2016, outlines the goals and duties of the institution, including research instruction and community service.
The distance between Rongo University (RU) and Rongo town is 8 kilometers. It was once one of Moi University’s constituent colleges. 2011 saw the founding of RU. Established in 1981, the location was once known as Moi Institute of Technology. Additionally, St. Magdalene Teachers College is located in Rongo.
