Swabri Mohammed (born 1 May 1981), popularly known by his stage name Redsan, is a celebrated Kenyan ragga and dancehall artist. Widely recognized as one of East Africa’s most influential musicians, Redsan’s popularity extends beyond the region to Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. His energetic performances, hit singles, and successful albums have earned him the nickname “Absentee Dancehall King” due to his constant international tours.
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Redsan was born in Majengo, Nairobi, Kenya, into a Duruma family of the Mijikenda community. He rose to prominence after winning the Star Search challenge at Carnivore discothèque in 1998, which introduced him to the Kenyan music scene.
In 2002, Redsan released his debut album “Seasons of the San” under the Ogopa Deejays label. The album produced timeless hits such as Julie and Wanipa Raha, which became anthems across East Africa and propelled him into the international spotlight.
