It is with great sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the sudden demise of Commissioner (Rtd.) Mary (Maria) Jemutai Tonje – 20/11/1943 — 12/07/2023 , which occurred after a short illness bravely borne.
Daughter of the late Simeon Chepkonga Arap Tonje and the late Elizabeth Teriki Chepkonga.
Beloved mother to Catherine Kiplagat (USA), the late Reuben Tonje, the late Vincent Tonje, Anne Jepkoech Tonje (Australia) and Elizabeth Chebor Tonje (USA). Mother-in-law to Josiah Kiplagat (USA) and Everlyne Chepkirui Tonje.
Grandmother to Irene and Gitau, Michael, Christian, Collins. Dr. S. Chelagat (USA), Kimberly and Dr. Stanley (USA), Kiptoo (USA) and Kimutai (USA). Great-grandmother to Coco, Bella, and Klan.
Sister to Gen. (Rtd.) D.R.C.Tonje and Mrs. Loyce Chelagatt.
Sister-in-law to Mrs. Mary Jebet Tonje and Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Ronald Y. Chelagatt. Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Niece, and Cousin to members of the Tonje, Chelagatt, Chemngorem families and Kabarkilanya clan, among many others.
Family and friends are meeting at the family home, Caruvianel Estate Farm, in Sabata Village, Kiminini Sub-county, Trans Nzoia County, from 4:00pm daily.

The cortege will leave Eldoret Hospital Mortuary on Wednesday, July 26th, 2023, at 8:00 am for a memorial service from 10:00 am at the family home, Caruvianel Estate Farm, in SabataVillage, Kiminini Sub-county,Trans Nzoia County. Funeral service and final send-off will take place on Friday, July 28th, 2023, from 8:00am at her farm in Ngata, Westlands Village, Rongai Sub-county, Nakuru County.
After she had served God’s purpose in her own generation, she rested. Acts 13:36
