NAIROBI, Kenya, June 14 – Safaricom has added 5G networks to three more counties, allowing customers to enjoy fast internet services.
Turkana, Trans Nzoia, and Narok residents can now access the 5G network.
The telco has now connected 23 counties in the country with ultra-fast internet services.
It has also added 150 5G active sites, pushing the total number to 368 countrywide.
“As of now we have an additional 150 active sites bringing the total to 368 active 5G sites countrywide,” the telco said in a statement today.
“We also have 3 new counties covered – Turkana, Trans Nzoia & Narok now with 5G coverage, bringing to a total of 23/47 counties with 5G coverage.”
Faster than a 4G network, clients will be able to download, stream, and play videos at neck-breaking speeds.
The telecommunication company last year became the first service provider in Kenya to launch 5G.
Some of the devolved units that have 5G networks include Nairobi, Kiambu, Mombasa, Kisumu, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Garissa, and Kajiado.
Others are Kisii Machakos, Kakamega, Kilifi, Siaya, Kericho, Kwale, Laikipia, Marsabit, Meru, Narok, Nyeri, and Vihiga Counties.
“As a digital lifestyle enabler, we are excited about a 5G future, which makes it possible to close the digital divide in underserved communities, provide access to critical services such as healthcare or spur economic growth by connecting small businesses to new opportunities,” Safaricom PLC CEO Peter Ndegwa said earlier.
“By increasing 5G coverage, we are enhancing Kenya’s best internet network and empowering our customers to start exploring the possibilities of 5G.”
