List of Elected MCAs in Mombasa County 2022-2027

This is a list of elected Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in Mombasa County as per the 2022 general election. 

Governor

Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir (Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)) was elected governor of Mombasa in the August 29, 2022 election. Francis Thoya Foleni (ODM) was elected deputy governor. The election should have been conducted on 9 August 2022 but was postponed to 29 August 2022, due to an error with the election ballots. 

Nassir defeated six other candidates, receiving 119,083 (54%) of the valid votes cast. His closest challenger was Hassan Omar Hassan (United Democratic Alliance (UDA)), who received 98,108 (45%) of the valid votes cast.

34% turnout for the gubernatorial election in Mombasa, as per provisional IEBC results.

(1) A county assembly consists of–

(a) members elected by the registered voters of the wards, each ward constituting a single member constituency, on the same day as a general election of Members of Parliament, being the second Tuesday in August, in every fifth year;
(b) the number of special seat members necessary to ensure that no more than two-thirds of the membership of the assembly are of the same gender;
(c) the number of members of marginalised groups, including persons with disabilities and the youth, prescribed by an Act of Parliament; and
(d) the Speaker, who is an ex officio member.

(2) The members contemplated in clause (1) (b) and (c) shall, in each case, be nominated by political parties in proportion to the seats received in that election in that county by each political party under paragraph (a) in accordance with Article 90.
(3) The filling of special seats under clause (1) (b) shall be determined after declaration of elected members from each ward.
(4) A county assembly is elected for a term of five years.

MCA Salaries in Kenya

According to a recent gazette notice by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), an MCA earns a salary of Ksh 144,375 per month. This includes a basic salary of Ksh 86,625, a house allowance of Ksh 45,000 and a market adjustment of Ksh 12,750.
