Godhana defeated twelve other candidates, receiving 26,892 of the valid votes cast. His closest challengers were Tuneya Hussein Dado (United Democratic Alliance (UDA)), with 26,633 votes and Nuh Nassir Abdi (United Party of Independent Alliance (UPIA)) with 24,101 votes.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) registered 141,096 voters in the fifteen wards and 14 voters in Hola prison in Tana River county, for the August 9 2022 general election. The voters registered in prisons could only vote in the presidential election.
