The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) registered 481,632 voters in the thirty wards and 368 voters in prisons in Nyeri county, for the August 9 2022 general election. The voters registered in prisons could only vote in the presidential election.
Mwalimu Edward Mutahi Kahiga (United Democratic Alliance (UDA)) was elected governor of Nyeri county in the August 9, 2022 election. David Kinaniri Waroe Mwangi (UDA) was elected deputy governor.
Kahiga defeated three other candidates, receiving 213,373 (66%) of the valid votes cast. His closest challenger was Thuo Mathenge (The New Democrats (TND)) with 81,467 (25%) votes. 68% turnout for the gubernatorial election in Nyeri, as per provisional IEBC results.
