Mung’aro defeated six other candidates, receiving 143,773 (51%) of the valid votes cast. His closest challengers were Aisha Jumwa Karisa Katana (United Democratic Alliance (UDA)), with 65,893 (23%) votes and George Kithi (Pamoja African Alliance (PAA)) with 64,326 (23%) votes.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) registered 588,602 voters in the thirty five wards and 240 voters in prisons in Kilifi county, for the August 9 2022 general election. The voters registered in prisons could only vote in the presidential election.
