Saturday,13th May 2023, Marigat Baringo County: The First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto, urged leaders from the counties touching the Kerio Valley to work towards peaceful co-existence for meaningful development to be achieved and the full potential of the Kerio Valley to be realised and added to the development of the nation.
The elected officials from the six targeted counties that border Kerio Valley—Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Turkana, Samburu, and Laikipia Counties—were present during the week-long “Faith in Action Week” initiative by the Faith Diplomacy Directorate.
Leaders present pledged their support for the North Rift peace declaration at the meeting and advocated for alternative income sources to supplement livestock that is prone to climate change. Access to education for all children and infrastructure were cited as critical to realising the true development potential and inter-county trade in the Kerio Valley region.
Other leaders present included Simon Chelugui, Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and Micro and Small Enterprise Development; Kamket Kassait, Member of Parliament for Tiaty constituency; Maison Leshoomo County Member of Parliament, Samburu County; Caroline Ngelechei County Member of Parliament, Elgeyo Marakwet County; and Charles Kamuren, Member of Parliament, Baringo South.
