Events shown on the channel include YouTube Comedy Week and the YouTube Music Awards. Additionally, the channel uploads annual installments of YouTube Rewind. For a brief period in late 2013, the channel was ranked as the most-subscribed on the platform. As of December 2021, the channel has earned 32.6 million subscribers and 2.5 billion video views.
The YouTube channel was registered in 2005. On November 2, 2013, the YouTube channel briefly surpassed PewDiePie’s channel, to become the most-subscribed channel on the website. The channel ascended to the top position through auto-suggesting and pre-selecting itself as a subscription option upon new user registration for YouTube. Throughout December 2013, the channel and PewDiePie struggled for the top position, but soon PewDiePie secured it on December 23, 2013.

Next Media Services’ story started with the founding of NBS Television with broadcasts commencing on June 16, 2008, when it was registered and got its license, at the time owning just one transmitter and headquartered at Media Plaza in Kamwokya, a Kampala Surbab. It was later followed with the launch other sister companies including Sanyuka TV, Salaam TV (with broadcasting based on the Islamic faith), Nile post (an online newspaper), Next Radio, Next Conference Centre ( an events centre), Next Productions and Next Communications. The group celebrated its tenth anniversary in June 2018 and later moved to Next Media Park, the former headquarters of the now defunct WBS TV. NBS Television has several notable senior on-air personalities, including Joseph Kigozi; the current Chief of Strategy, Canary Mugume Rukh-Shana Namuyimba and Solomon Serwanjja as news presenters. One of the most celebrated female journalists in the East African region, Joy Doreen Biira, was a pioneer presenter.
The flagship station is known for its focus on politics, hence “The Political Command Centre” slogan. The station has one of the biggest political talk shows, Frontline which airs every Thursday night and brings together political leaders from different political parties and Barometer, the Luganda alternative which airs every Tuesday night.
NBS also has a series of business, movies, sports, youth and entertainment shows.
The group’s Luganda television Sanyuka TV airs shows such as the Startimes Uganda Premier League and the popular showbiz program Uncut which also airs on NBS Television for a short period.
