Doha is a great shopping destination and one of the main attractions of the city. There are mainly three different kinds of places to shop: Traditional Souqs, City center medium-sized markets, and large modern shopping malls.

One of the most popular places to dive is called Old Club Reef, a man-made reef, just before Sealine Beach Resort. Constructed of sunken cars and oil drums, two artificial reefs have been built for scuba diving.

Doha is of course not the only place of interest in Qatar! There is much more to be seen… like the cities of Al Wakra, Khor Al Udaid, Al Ruwais, Al Khor with its picturesque harbor and spectacular beaches, Al Zubara with its famous old fort. Other places to see include the Inland Sea surrounded by sand dunes or the Alshahaniya Camels Race Track.
Villages & cities: Al Wakra – Umm Salal Mohammed, Al Khor
Al Wakra: Located South of Doha, Al Wakra was once a pearling and fishing village. It has now become a small city of 30.000 people but the historic harbor remains where the dhows (local boats) are lined up waiting for the night to come to go fishing. Another attraction of the place is the small district where old Islamic-style houses can still be seen.
Umm Salal Mohammed: Located North of Doha, Umm Salal Mohammed is home to a remarkable fort and one of Qatar’s most famous landmarks: Barzan Tower.
Al Khor: A famous picturesque fishing village where traditional dhows have not been replaced by modern speed boats. Al Khor Museum nestling in a small fortress is a visit not to be missed to better understand the long and rich history of the region. Just a few kilometers north of the town the Mangrove Plantation of Al Thakhira is another attraction.
Qatar’s Forts: Al Zubara – Al Thughb – Al Wajbah
Al Zubara: Built in 1938, this ochre-colored fort is the most impressive in the country. It is located 100km northwest of Doha in the middle of the desert with nothing around except ruins of the old town of Al Zubara.
Al Thughb: Located just 15 kilometers from Al Zubara, Al Thughb Fort is a typical Qatari desert fort of rectangular shape with four corner watchtowers.
Al Wajbah: Located 15 kilometers West of Doha it is one of the oldest forts in Qatar. It was indeed built-in 1882.
Inland Sea & desert
The Inland sea is a must-see when visiting Qatar. It is a vast turquoise waters lake in the middle of the desert, surrounded by dunes of sand and connected to the Persian Gulf by a narrow channel. The Inland Sea is a very popular weekend destination for Qataris but tourists should be aware of the challenge of driving through the dunes… An exercise to be reserved for experts only. Al Shahaniya: Camels races & Al Maha Sanctuary
Al Shahaniya is located about 25 kilometers Northwest of Doha. It is home to the most famous and the largest Camels racetrack in Qatar – A must-see if visiting the country during racing season (Half-day tours can be organized from Doha by local travel agents). The most popular and prestigious Camel Race is held here in April: Emir GCC Camels Race. Al Shahaniya is also home to the Al Maha Sanctuary a reserve for Oryx (Qatar’s national symbol).

Al Bida Park & Corniche
Along the Corniche, near the National Theatre, the park has a number of attractions including a cafeteria and a small group of shops. There is a water feature, a Ferris wheel and for kids, a half-pipe for skateboarding and roller-blading.
Doha counts many souqs but the most famous and popular is Souq Waqif. Located in the very heart of Doha, a stone throw from the Corniche, Souq Waqif is an ancient market where bedouin tribespeople once traded their meat, camel milk, wool.
Museum of Islamic Arts
The MIA (Museum of Islamic Arts) is one of the prominent tourist attractions in Doha. The museum is featuring an amazing priceless collection of masterpieces dating from the 7th to 19th century and made in countries of the Islamic World.
National Museum of Qatar
Tne Qatar National Museum is dedicated to Qatar history and traditions. It features an interesting collection of photographs of the nomadic Bedouin tribesmen living in the desert and also a unique collection of Islamic coins.
The spiral mosque of the Kassem Darwish Fakhroo Islamic Centre is a recent construction – It has become in a few years one of Doha’s most famous landmarks. This is not a traditional Qatari mosque but a replica of the Great Mosque of Al-Mutawwakil in Samarra Iraq.
Pearl of Qatar
The Pearl of Qatar is an artificial island created immediately east of the West Bay shoreline a few kilometers north of Doha City center. This talked about the project has now come true and the first marinas have been fully completed and opened to the public in late 2009.
Al Koot Fort
Also known as the Doha Fort, this Moorish-style fort has a display of traditional crafts and paintings. It is collated at the corner of Doha’s Jasim bin Mohammed and Al Qalaa Streets, near the old souq area.
Doha’s Municipal Zoo is situated on the outskirts of Doha, about half an hour’s drive from the town center. There are plenty of shaded viewing areas as well as extensive play facilities for children. The zoo is open from 3 pm to 9 pm daily except for Saturdays.
