One of the twelve election seats in Kiambu County, Kenya, Kabete Constituency borders Nairobi County’s Westlands Constituency. List of Elected MCAs in Kabete Constituency 2022. The constituency is home to 140,427 people and has an area of around 60.20 km^.
According to a 2005 research, Kenya’s lowest poverty rate was found in the Kabete constituency.
Kikuyu Constituency, which was once a part of Kabete Constituency, was divided in 2012.
On February 7, 2015, George Muchai, the deputy secretary general of the Central Organization of Trade Unions and a member of parliament for the Kabete Constituency, was shot and killed in Nairobi by unidentified gunmen. Muchai had claimed there was widespread worker deduction theft, misappropriation, and mismanagement, totaling Sh190 billion, according to the Standard Newspaper for November 10, 2014.
Ferdinand Waititu succeeded him, and on May 26, 2015, at a special parliamentary session, he was sworn in. Waititu had won the election with an overwhelming majority—more than 90% of the total votes cast. Waititu served as the Embakasi Constituency’s previous member of parliament. Following his announcement as the winner, he pledged to provide capable leadership and proclaimed that he will run for Kiambu County governor in the next elections.
After winning the succeeding election in 2022, John Githua Kamau was elected as the next member of parliament in 2017.
