Constituencies of Kenya are used to elect members of the Kenyan parliament. In accordance with article 89 of the 2010 Constitution of Kenya, there are 290 constituencies, based on a formula where these constituencies were to be delineated based on population numbers. In the following lists, the population of each of the 47 counties is given as enumerated in the census of 24 August 2009. Under each county is, the number of seats it has and a list of constituencies are given. Mombasa County is one of the 47 counties of Kenya. It’s the capital and the only city in the county of Mombasa. Initially it was one of the former districts of Kenya but in 2013 it was reconstituted as a county, on the same boundaries. It is the smallest county in Kenya, covering an area of 229.7 km2 excluding 65 km2 of water mass. The county is situated in the south eastern part of the former Coast Province. It borders Kilifi County to the north, Kwale County to the south west and the Indian Ocean to the east. Administratively, the county is divided into seven divisions, eighteen locations and thirty sub-locations.
Mombasa county is composed of the following six Parliamentary constituencies:
Changamwe Constituency,
Changamwe Constituency is an electoral constituency in Changamwe, Kenya. It used to be one of the four constituencies in Mombasa district. With the promulgation of the new constitution in August 2010, it saw a creation of two more constituencies in Mombasa County. These are Jomvu and Nyali Constituencies which were curved out from Changamwe and Kisauni Constituencies respectively thereby bringing a total of six constituencies in 2012. Before the curving out of Jomvu constituency from Changamwe, the constituency used to have eight wards electing Councillors for the Mombasa municipal council.
With the promulgation of the new constitution in August 2010, the districts were renamed to Counties thus bringing a total of 47 counties in the country and the wards renamed to county assembly wards. This also saw the remapping of Changamwe Constituency boundary by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission – IEBC as mandated by the New Constitution.
Changamwe Constituency has five county assembly wards namely: Airport; Chaani; Kipevu; Miritini and Port Reitz
Jomvu Constituency,
Jomvu is a constituency in Kenya. It is one of six constituencies in Mombasa County. It was curved out of Changamwe Constituency after the promulgation of the New Constitution in 2010.
Kisauni Constituency,
Kisauni Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of six constituencies in Mombasa County. The constituency has seven wards electing councillors for the Mombasa municipal council. With the promulgation of the new constitution in August 2010, Nyali Constituency was carved out from Kisauni Constituency.
Nyali Constituency,
Nyali is a constituency in Kenya. It is one of six constituencies in Mombasa County. It was carved out of Kisauni Constituency after the promulgation of the New Constitution of Kenya, 2010. It was established for the 2013 General Elections. The current MP is the former journalist Mohammed Ali alias Jicho Pevu who won the elections on an Independent Ticket.
Likoni Constituency,
Likoni is among the six constituencies in Mombasa County with four wards which include Timbwani which is the largest, Bofu, Mtongwe and Shika adabu.
The current Member of Parliament for Likoni is Hon Mishi Juma Mboko who is a member of the Orange Democratic Movement party and took over from Suleiman Masoud in 2017 who ran on a jubilee ticket.
Inspire of many cases of insecurity in the constituency, the member of Parliament is working with the national government to make likoni a safe place for the Likonians
Mvita Constituency.
Mvita Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of six constituencies in Mombasa County. The entire constituency is located within Mombasa municipality area. The constituency was established for the 1988 elections.
