Jordan 1-3 Qatar Stats: 2023 Asian Cup Final. Three penalties from Akram Afif gave Qatar victory in the 2023 Asian Cup final at the Lusail Stadium. We have all the best facts and numbers here with our Jordan vs Qatar stats page.

Jordan 1-3 Qatar: Post-Match Opta Facts

  • Qatar (2019 and 2023) have become just the fifth country to win the tournament in consecutive editions after South Korea (1956 and 1960), Iran (1968, 1972 and 1976), Saudi Arabia (1984 and 1988) and Japan (2000 and 2004).
  • Including today’s four goals, a total of 132 goals were scored in the 2023 edition of the AFC Asian Cup – the most in a single edition, surpassing a previous high of 130 goals in the 2019 edition.
  • Qatar became the first team since the start of the 2007 AFC Asian Cup to win three penalties in a single game, surpassing a previous high of two by Iraq (vs Vietnam) and United Arab Emirates (vs Hong Kong) – both in this year’s tournament.
  • Jordan attempted 24 crosses today, their highest in a single game in the Asian Cup since Opta started collecting competition data in 2007, surpassing a previous high of 20 (vs Palestine) in 2015.
  • Including today, Qatar have now scored in each of their last 15 games in the Asian Cup; only Japan (22) and South Korea (16) have registered a longer such streak in the competition’s history.
  • Akram Afif became the first player since the start of the 2007 edition of the Asian Cup to score multiple penalties (3) in a single game in competition history; Afif also became the first player to score a hat-trick in an Asian Cup Final.
  • Akram Afif (8 goals, 3 assists) has become the first player to record 10 or more goal contributions in more than one edition of the competition since the start of the 2007 edition, after doing so in 2019 as well (11 – 1 goal and 10 assists). He also became the leading goalscorer of the 2023 edition of the competition with eight goals to his name.
  • Afif has been involved in 22 goals in the Asian Cup since the beginning of the last edition (8 goals and 13 assists), which constitutes 67% involvement in Qatar’s goals in the two tournaments. Afif scored in the final of both tournaments from the penalty spot.
  • Mousa Tamari recorded 10 touches in the opposition’s box in the final, the highest by any Jordan player in a single game in the 2023 Asian Cup. However, Yazan Al Naimat (42) finished with more such touches than Tamari (33) among Jordan players in the tournament.
  • Lucas Mendes made 12 clearances today, the second highest by any Qatar player in a single game in the Asian Cup since Opta started collecting competition data, after Boualem Khoukhi made 13 clearances against South Korea in the 2019 edition.
