Dentistry, also known as dental medicine and oral medicine, is the branch of medicine focused on the teeth, gums, and mouth. How to Apply for Registration and Indexing of Dental Students in Kenya. Here is How to Apply for Registration and Indexing of Dental Students in Kenya
- Upon admission to a dental training institute/school, dentistry students are required to submit an application for registration and Indexing within three (03) months, following commencement of training with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Councils (KMPDC) for an index number. - Collect and complete the Application for Registration as a Medical/ Dental Student Form available at the KMPDC offices or download it via the KMPDC website KMPDC Downloads, (scroll down the page and then click on the “Other Form” option to locate the form) or directly download it using this Application for Registration as a Medical/ Dental Student Form
- Submit the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, in addition to the duly completed application forms, in all respect, to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council’s (KMPDC) Office. Any omission of the required information or documents will render the application process incomplete.
- The application shall also be accompanied by proof of payment of a registration fee of Ksh. 1,000.00 (non-refundable). (All Payments should be made to Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council Account No: 1103158643, KCB Bank, Milimani Branch or SWIFT CODE: KCBLKENX BANK CODE: 01175).
- Upon receipt of the application, the receiving officers will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
- It is the duty of the dean of the respective dental school to submit the list of students admitted during the training period, to ensure they’re indexed by the Council. This should be done within three months of admission.
- After the document evaluation phase has been completed satisfactorily, students are registered and allocated a unique index number.
- Students can either opt to collect their index number from the KMPDC offices or at the dean’s office at their respective institute; as a list of the registered students and their index numbers will be sent to the dean by the KMPDC.
Eligibility
The student needs to be admitted to a dental school undertaking a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree program or its equivalent.
Note:
- All candidates admitted to the Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree program or its equivalent must satisfy the following indexing requirements.
These include:
- For Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education holders, the minimum university admission requirement is C+ (plus) and in addition, an average of B plain in each of the following cluster subjects:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics or Mathematics
- English or Swahili
- For Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education holders, a minimum of two principal passes in Biology, Chemistry, and a subsidiary pass in either Mathematics or Physics.
- For International Baccalaureate (IB), a minimum of grade 5 or above in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics, English or Kiswahili subject clusters.
- For Diploma holders in Medical Sciences, a minimum “O” level Division II pass in K.A.C.E or C+ (plus) mean grade and a credit C+ pass in the cluster subjects in K.C.S.E., in addition to a three-year diploma with a minimum of a credit pass from a medical training institution recognized by the Board in any of the following fields:
- Dental technology
- Dental surgery assistants
- Dental hygiene
- Community oral health
- Clinical medicine
- Laboratory technology
- Radiography
- Pharmaceutical technology
- Nursing
- Other equivalent disciplines
- Proficiency in the English language. International students from non-English speaking countries shall provide evidence of competence in the English language by the production of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) certificate or its equivalent.
- For holders of any degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent qualifications from a recognized university, subject to passing Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
- Other qualifications deemed to be equivalent to those in points ONE TO FIVE above from institutions recognized by the different institutions’ Senates.
