Various patents including advanced features have been published with the intention of replacing traditional metal and plastic license plates. How To Apply For The New NTSA Digital Number Plates In Kenya

Motorists are advised to access the Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) through ntsa (dot) go (dot) ke

Enter your login method, username, password and the security code that will be sent to your phone, and click sign in.  Upon logging in, go to the Registration Module and click on Reflective Number Plate menu.

Select the vehicle you want to apply the plates for, from the list of vehicles in your account and click on the Next button at the bottom of the screen. 

Hover over to the Reason for Reflective Plate tab and click on the drop-down arrow. Select the New Generation plate and preferred location to pick up the new number plates. A text message will be sent when the new number plates will be ready.  

  1. Log in to https://timsvirl.ntsa.go.ke
  2. Click on Vehicle Registration
  3. Select Reflective No. Plate
  4. Click Apply for Reflective No. Plate
  5. You will be redirected to your list of vehicles, choose the one you want to apply a number plate for
  6. Verify the vehicle details and click next
  7. Select the reason for applying for the Reflective plate i.e new generation plate.
  8. Choose the notification method; email or SMS
  9. Choose the type of Front and back number plate i.e Oblong or Square
  10. Choose the plate counter collection office
  11. On the Lost/Defaced Number Plate &  Tape Lifting Report sections attach a scanned copy of the original logbook and an image of the number plates in pdf on both slots. A tape lifting report is not required when applying for the new digital generation number plates.
  12. Confirm the vehicle particulars and pay. If paying via Mpesa, you will be charged Ksh 3,050.
  13. NTSA will alert you via SMS or Email when the number plate is ready for collection. It takes up to two weeks to get the new number plates.
