How to Turn notifications on or off on Chrome

Browser notifications are one of the best features of modern browsers. Turn notifications on or off on Chrome They show previews of email, football scores or even instant messages, letting you to take a quick glance at updates without leaving the work you’re doing. But this can get a little overwhelming, particularly when it includes spam and advertisements. If too many sites have begun to send notifications, or if you need to shut out all the noise, you should disable Google Chrome notifications. Doing so is pretty simple:

You can set up Chrome to get notifications, like meeting reminders, from websites, apps, and extensions.

If you get pop-ups or ads, learn how to block or allow pop-ups.

On Computer

How notifications work

By default, Chrome alerts you whenever a website, app, or extension wants to send you notifications. You can change this setting at any time.

If you’re browsing in Incognito mode, you won’t get notifications.

Allow or block notifications from all sites

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More  and then Settings.
  3. Under “Privacy and security,” click Site settings.
  4. Click Notifications.
  5. Choose to block or allow notifications:
    • Allow or Block all: Turn on or off Sites can ask to send notifications.
    • Block a site: Next to “Block,” click Add. Enter the site and click Add.
    • Allow a site: Next to “Allow,” click Add. Enter the site and click Add.
    • Allow quieter notification prompts: Allow sites to ask to send notifications, then click Use quieter messaging (blocks notification prompts from interrupting you). You won’t get notifications after you ignore multiple notifications from a site, or if other users typically don’t allow notifications from a site.

You can also block any sites or apps from sending you notifications.

Fix issues with notifications

If you want to receive notifications from a site but aren’t getting them: 

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. Go to the site you want to get notifications from. 
  3. Select View site information Lock.
  4. Next to Notifications, select Allow from the drop down menu. 

Block pop-ups from a site

If you want to receive notifications from a site but aren’t getting them: 

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More More.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Under “Privacy and security,” click Site settings.
  5. Click Pop-ups and redirects.
  6. Under “Allow,” look for the site.
  7. To the right of the site, click More More and thenBlock.

If the site isn’t listed, next to “Block,” click Add. Enter the site’s web address, and then click Add. To capture all pop-ups across the site, use the pattern [*.]example.com.

  4. Tap Site Settings and then Notifications.
    • If you don’t see the setting here, this website can’t send you notifications.
  5. Choose Allow or Block.

Turn pop-ups off

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app Chrome.
  2. To the right of the address bar, tap More More and then Settings.
  3. Tap Site settings and then Pop-ups and redirects.
  4. Turn Pop-ups and redirects off.

On iPhone & iPad

Chrome doesn’t get notifications on your iPhone or iPad. If you get any alerts from Chrome, you may have pop-ups enabled.

To turn pop-ups off:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chrome app Chrome .
  2. Tap More More and then Settings Settings.
  3. Tap Content settings and then Block Pop-ups.
  4. Turn “Block Pop-ups” off.
