How to Cook Dried fish (Obambla). The Obambla fish: Just after fishing, the fish is split open, dried, and/or smoked and stored for a long period without going bad. This is how it’s made, and given the name Obambla. Obambla is always available in all seasons – both rainy and sunny.
Ingredients
- Dried fish
- chopped onion
- 1 tbs soda ash
- 2 tbs cooking oil
- 1 tbs salt to taste
- lemon
- tomato(optional)
Obambla Cooking Instructions
- Step 1 Wash the dried fish in hot water
- Step 2 On a pan put the cooking oil and leave it to heat for about a minute
- Step 3 Add the onions and strir till the start changing to golden brown
- Step 4 Add your sliced tomatoes and stir untill u have a thick paste
- Step 5 Add the soda ash and leave it to simmer for 2mins
- Step 6 Place your washed dried fish to the solution
- Step 7 Sprinkle your 1tbs of salt
- Step 8 Squiz your lemon on top of it (this enables both to add flavour to the fish and to reduce the smell of the dried fish)
- Step 9 Cover your cooking pot and let it cook simmer for about 20 mins
- Step 10 Serve with ugali.
