How to change your PSN online status
- From the home screen select your profile.
- Select Online Status and set your availability.
- You can set your online status from the control center by selecting your profile and then Online Status.
- You can press the options button on the user selection screen to change your online status.
Please note:
- When you’re signed in on multiple PlayStation®5 consoles, or on a PS5â„¢ console and a PlayStation®4 console, changing your online status on one device changes your status for all devices.
- Within a game, you might appear online to the other players.
- If you sign in to PlayStation™Network on a PlayStation®3 console, PlayStation®Vita or PlayStation®TV, you’ll appear online.
- Even if your status is set to Busy or Appear Offline, other players can still invite you to voice chat and online games.
- The next time you log in, you keep the same online status from when you last logged out.
When to change your online status
Online status lets you know the availability of a player. You can tell what a player’s online status is by checking the icon on their profile or your friend list.
You can choose from the following online statuses:
Online | If you don’t change your status, you appear as online when you’re signed in. |
Busy | Use this status when you want to focus on your game or you’re stepping away from your console for a while. This status can’t be chosen on PS4â„¢ consoles. |
Appear Offline | Use this status if you don’t want your friends or other players to see you as online. |

How to set privacy settings online
- Go to Account Management on a connected device.
- Select Privacy settings.
- Select a feature you would like to change privacy settings for and Edit.
- Choose who you want to allow from the drop-down menu and select Confirm.
What are the PSN privacy settings?
Privacy settings are tied to your account. If you change the privacy settings for your account, those changes will be reflected on all devices.

What are the preset privacy settings on PS5 consoles
Adult players can choose from four preset profiles.
- Social and Open
You’re open to all requests and messages. Any player can see your profile information. - Team Player
Any player can see most of your profile information, but they need to at least be friends of friends to invite you to chat. - Friend Focused
Only your friends can see your information and invite you to chat. - Solo and Focused
No player can see your profile information or invite you to chat, even if you’ve added them as a friend.
Children can select a privacy profile when creating an account with their family manager but aren’t able to choose from these privacy profiles after creating an account.
