Requirements
To apply for Kenyan citizenship through marriage, applicants must meet these conditions:
- Marriage Duration: Must have been married to a Kenyan citizen for at least seven years.
- Legally Recognized Marriage: The marriage must be valid under Kenyan law, whether conducted in Kenya or abroad.
- Immigration Status: Applicant must not be a prohibited immigrant.
- Criminal Record: Applicant must not have been convicted of an offense with a sentence of three or more years.
- Marriage Intent: The marriage should not have been entered into for immigration or citizenship benefits.
- Ongoing Marriage: The marriage must still be ongoing at the time of the application.
Required Documents
When applying, gather the following:
- Completed Application Form 8 (attested by a Commissioner for Oaths).
- Citizenship Questionnaire Form.
- An application letter addressed to the Director of Immigration Services.
- Two passport-sized photos.
- A copy of the marriage certificate.
- An original certificate of good conduct.
- Applicant’s passport copy.
- Kenyan spouse’s ID or passport copy.
- A joint sworn affidavit.
- Copy of dependant’s pass/permit.
- Checklist copy (downloadable from eFNS).
Application Process
- Create an account on the Kenya Government Single Sign-On portal.
- Log in and access the eFNS portal.
- Select “Submit Applications,” then choose Citizenship by Marriage.
- After submitting, an invoice will be generated (check under “Dashboard” > “Payments” tab).
- If unable to pay online, print the application (under “My Applications”) and make a physical payment.
- Present the application with all required documents at Nyayo House, Nairobi.
- You will receive email and online notifications on the progress.
