Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, Michael Ndung’u, popularly known as DJ Fully Focus, discovered his passion for music and deejaying at the age of 13. This life-changing moment occurred when he attended his first live music event and watched DJ Gusto captivate a crowd with his mastery of the turntables. From that day on, DJ Fully Focus knew he was destined to become a DJ.
Journey to the United States
In May 1998, DJ Fully Focus and his family relocated to the United States in search of better opportunities. Raised by his single mother, who worked hard to provide for the family, DJ Fully Focus was inspired by her determination and work ethic. This drive pushed him to hone his deejaying skills, and he began studying multiple music genres such as hip-hop, reggae, dancehall, Afrobeat, and rock.
Without formal training, DJ Fully Focus learned by observing and practicing, seizing opportunities at smaller functions and eventually working his way up to international concerts.
Career Breakthrough and International Tours
DJ Fully Focus’s big break came after years of perfecting his craft. He became a sought-after DJ for major concerts and events, performing alongside some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Akon, Lil Wayne, R. Kelly, Wale, Birdman, Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Wizkid, and 2Face. His career as a DJ took him around the world, with performances in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.
In 2013, DJ Fully Focus embarked on the Motivation World Tour, which included stops in Dubai, Amsterdam, Belgium, and London. His talent and passion for music led him to become a guest DJ at Encore, the largest weekly hip-hop event in the Netherlands. He closed out the year in Rwanda, headlining the Happy People party in Kigali, where he performed alongside local Rwandan artists such as Knowles, Urban Boyz, and King James.
