MMC (MultiMediaCard) is a type of removable flash memory card used for storing digital data in portable electronic devices such as cameras, mobile phones, MP3 players, and PDAs. Introduced in the late 1990s by SanDisk and Siemens, MMC cards are similar in size and shape to SD cards but typically lack some of the advanced features and write protection found in newer formats.
MMC cards use a serial interface to communicate with devices and were popular before being largely replaced by SD (Secure Digital) and microSD cards, which offer better speed, capacity, and compatibility. Despite being mostly obsolete today, MMC helped pave the way for modern portable storage solutions.
