These segments, typically 153 characters each (to reserve space for reassembly metadata), are then rejoined by the recipient’s device and displayed as one continuous message. Long SMS is enabled by a technology called concatenated SMS, which ensures the order and content of the message are preserved. While convenient for sending extended text, long SMS messages may incur additional charges depending on the mobile carrier and plan.
