Firefox OS was an open-source mobile operating system developed by Mozilla, designed to run web-based applications using HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS instead of native apps. Launched in 2013, Firefox OS aimed to offer an affordable, lightweight alternative for smartphones, especially in emerging markets. Its interface and core apps were built entirely on web technologies, making it highly flexible and developer-friendly. Despite initial partnerships with hardware manufacturers, Firefox OS struggled to gain market traction and was officially discontinued for smartphones in 2016. The project later evolved into other open-source initiatives for smart TVs and IoT devices.
