In Kenya, a conservative political party is called the Democratic Party (DP). After Section 2A of the Constitution was removed, John Keen and Mwai Kibaki created the party in 1991.
The party was a partner in the National Rainbow Coalition, which garnered 125 out of 210 elected seats and 56.1% of the popular vote on December 27, 2002, the day of the legislative elections. Of them, 36 were occupied by the party itself. The party backed Kibaki in the same day’s presidential elections, which he won with 62.2% of the vote.
