On Tuesday, the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, sharply criticized Juja MP George Koimburi over alleged bribery claims related to the Finance Bill, 2024. Ichung’wah accused Koimburi of doublespeak regarding the purported Ksh2 million bribe offered to MPs to vote in favor of the bill.
Ichung’wah revealed that he had received a letter from Koimburi on Monday, in which the Juja MP purportedly apologized for his bribery remarks. The letter, which was also reportedly sent to Parliament, stated: “I George Koimburi Ndung’u elected member of Parliament for Juja constituency would like to tender my apology to the House leadership and my colleagues.”
However, Ichung’wah, who also serves as the Kikuyu MP, called on National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to request Koimburi to clarify the authenticity of the letter. Despite Koimburi flagging the letter as fake on Tuesday, Ichung’wah noted that the letter before Wetangula had two stamps, similar to the one captured in a post shared by Koimburi.

“I was confused when the MP flagged the letter yet he admitted that he had sent it,” Ichung’wah asserted while speaking in Parliament. The letter, seen by NS News, was an apology to the House for making claims that Members of Parliament allegedly received a Ksh2 million token to vote in favor of the Finance Bill, 2024.
“Honesty doesn’t require a steep price. It is a shame for a leader to trade their integrity for cheap short-lived political capital,” Ichung’wah remarked, indicating his frustration with Koimburi’s behavior. He further argued that this behavior was a clear indication of the MP’s character and noted that Koimburi had failed to declare his stand on the matter formally.
“We don’t know which George Koimburi to believe, is it the one on social media, the one in churches, or the one who will appear here? I honestly do not know who is the MP for Juja; he has too many faces,” Ichung’wah stated, questioning the MP’s consistency and reliability.
Meanwhile, in the letter, Koimburi explained that his earlier remarks had caused problems in the country, especially during a time of political turmoil. He expressed remorse and committed to championing peace in the country moving forward.
This incident highlights the ongoing tension and scrutiny within the Kenyan Parliament as the government faces criticism and pressure to address various political and economic issues.
