Bose has unveiled the new Smart Soundbar 900, its latest flagship product, with a slew of features from Dolby Atmos to HDMI support. The announcement was made on the Bose Global Press Room blog, where the company revealed the Smart Soundbar 900’s dimensions are 2.3 inches tall, 4 inches deep, and 41 inches long, encased in a wraparound metal grille and tempered glass. Bose takes on the Sonos Arc with a choice of voice assistants and HDMI connectivity for under a grand.
The Smart Soundbar 900 has a seven-speaker arrangement in its cabinet, working in tandem with the company’s proprietary PhaseGuide technology. The soundbar connects to different apps and devices, thanks to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities. It works with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa for voice control and Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2, and other Bose smart speakers for a multi-room system.
Bose has combined Dolby Atmos surround sound with its PhaseGuide technology for precise sound placement and better immersion. Bose’s TrueSpace tech is also included to provide a vertical sound experience. The company’s goal is to make customers feel like they’re actually in an action movie or the front row at a concert.
The Soundbar 900 is 2.3 inches high, 4 inches deep and 41 inches long, and the company says it makes a good match for 50-inch-and-over televisions.
The soundbar will also pair with external peripherals such as the Bass Module 500 and 700, and Bose Surround Speakers.
The leader in the smart soundbar category is currently the $800 Sonos Arc, which offers a robust multiroom application and a bigger selection of compatible speakers, including the Ikea Symfonisk range. I look forward to testing the two models head-to-head in the very near future.
The Bose Smart Soundbar 900 replaces the existing Soundbar 700 and will be available on Sept. 23 for $900.
The Smart Soundbar 900 connects through a single HDMI eARC cable that transmits full-resolution audio signal and can reproduce a high-quality sound without compromising quality. The Smart Soundbar 900 will be available starting September 23 for $899.95. It’s currently available for pre-order.
