Early loan repayment is highly encouraged, as this can result in you accessing a higher loan limit faster by improving your CRB score (Credit Reference Bureau score), given by the Credit Reference Bureau. A credit reference bureau is a firm which is mandated by the Central Bank of Kenya to collect credit information about borrowers from various sources and provide it to lenders ( who are predominantly banks). Credit Reference Bureaus (CRBs) assist lenders in determining the creditworthiness of their borrowers. CRBs allow for credit information sharing among financial institutions.
You only get listed by CRB if you default on a loan by at least 90 days. The law requires CRB to retain the defaulter information for a period of 5 years from when the loan was cleared. It is advised that you avoid defaulting on loan repayment, as this will affect your CRB score and could prevent you from accessing loans in the future.
A rollover fee will be charged on the total outstanding loan amount if the loan is not paid on the due date:
– 3 Day Loan Product : Rollover fee 2.75% on the outstanding loan amount due for 2 days after due date
– 7 Day Loan Product: Rollover fee of 4.75% on the outstanding loan amount due for 7 days after the due date
– 30 Day Loan Product: Rollover fee of 5.5% on the outstanding loan amount due for 7 days after the due date
If the loan is still not fully repaid , a weekly default fee of 3.5% on outstanding balance will be applied every week until the loan is fully repaid. The account will also be listed negatively on CRB after the roll over period.
