Apply for Radiation Device Or Radioactive Material Import/ Export/ Transport Licence in Kenya. The most common handheld or portable instruments are: Geiger Counter, with Geiger-Mueller (GM) Tube or Probe—A GM tube is a gas-filled device that, when a high voltage is applied, creates an electrical pulse when radiation interacts with the wall or gas in the tube.
Radiation monitoring instruments are used both for area monitoring and. for individual monitoring. The instruments used for measuring radiation. levels are referred to as area survey meters (or area monitors) and the. instruments used for recording the equivalent doses received by.

Need for the Document
In order to control trans boundary movement of irradiating devices and radioactive materials, combat illicit trafficking in radioactive/nuclear materials, the Radiation Protection Board requires that anybody who intends to import/ export/ transport radiation device or radioactive materials apply for a radiation device or radioactive material import/ export/ transport licence.
The Radiation Protection Board is a statutory body established under the Act of parliament, the Radiation Protection Act, Cap 243, Laws of Kenya as the national competent authority with the responsibility for protecting the health and safety of people and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. It regulates the use of ionizing radiation, exportation, importation, distribution and possession of radiation sources.
How do you monitor radiation levels?External exposure to radiation is measured with dosimeters worn on the person. These dosimeters can measure both the penetrating (whole body) dose and the shallow, non-penetrating (skin) dose to the entire body, lens of the eye and extremities (hands).
