The Apple Worldwide Developer’s Conference is an annual event where software developers connect with the engineers who envision and build Apple products, services, and software. It usually happens in the first week of June.

When Is WWDC 2023?

WWDC 2023 runs from June 5-9, 2023. Most of the conference is hosted online, but Apple will also hold a limited-attendance special event at Apple Park.

How to Register and Attend WWDC

The Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) is always free to attend online, with a free stream of the event directly from Apple’s website. Registration for the in-person day is no longer open.

What Apple Announced at WWDC 2023

On the first day (June 5) Apple showed the newest editions of its operating systems: iOS 17 for iPhones, iPadOS 17 for iPads, tvOS 17 for the Apple TV streaming box, watchOS 10 for the Apple Watch, and visionOS for the Apple Vision Pro.

Apple also introduced new hardware at WWDC: the 15-inch MacBook Air, Mac Studio, MacPro, the M2 Ultra chip, and the highly anticipated Apple VR/AR headset.

As expected, software and hardware announcements were the stars of the 2023 event. Here are some of the most notable:

visionOS

visionOS is the world’s spatial operating system that lets wearers of the Apple Vision Pro interact with digital content like apps, documents, and media as if it’s physically in the same space with them.

Although visionOS lets users see the digital world as if it were real, it superimposes this AR experience on the real world so they can still interact with their surroundings as normal.

iOS 17

iOS 17 includes an upgrade to Siri. Now, all you have to say is, “Siri,” and it will respond. You can also give back-to-back commands.

Phone, FaceTime, and Messages all have new features, such as real-time transcripts of voicemails, leave a message on FaceTime, and an all-new Stickers experience in Messages.

AirDrop now includes NameDrop—and easier way to share contacts and activities.

iOS 17 supports a new app called Journal, which uses your photos, music, podcasts, locations, and contacts to make suggestions for new journal entries. It also comes with StandBy, a fullscreen experience that lets you use the phone in landscape mode to see information at a distance.

iPadOS 17

iPadOS 17 has updates to widgets, access to the Health App for the first time on Apple tablets, and the easier creation and use of PDFs.

watchOS 10

watchOS 10 has some new clock faces, including a Palette option – which changes colors as the seconds tick by – and a Peanuts one featuring Snoopy and Woodstock. Its fitness app now comes with Running Form and other metrics that analyze your technique.

In addition, it offers enhanced health capabilities including Sleep Stages and a Medications app.

macOS Sonoma

Ventura’s successor, macOS Sonoma, also brings widgets. This updated version of the feature that’s already available on iPhone lets you quickly access apps and make updates without switching over.

Sonoma also has some focus on gaming. It’ll have a Game Mode that automatically allocates resources to games. Background processes will slow down or stop to let the more intensive programs run more smoothly. Along with Game Mode, this update should improve latency when using headphones and controllers.

tvOS 17

The new tvOS moves the Control Center to the upper-right and includes tabs for user profiles, devices, and Home devices. It also includes a remote-finder that works with the iPhone and a new Screensaver option that uses your photos.

15-inch MacBook Air

The rumored MacBook Air with a 15-inch screen is real. It’ll use the M2 chip and launch in June 2023.
