Apple has officially acknowledged the delay of its AI-powered Siri revamp, pushing its expected release well beyond the previously rumored timeline. Initially, the updated Siri was expected to debut in April alongside iOS 18.4, but recent reports hinted at an indefinite delay. Now, Apple has confirmed that the new Siri experience won’t be arriving anytime soon.
A Harder Challenge Than Expected
According to a statement from Apple spokeswoman Jacqueline Roy, the company has been working on a more advanced and personalized Siri, but the development process has proven to be more complex than anticipated.
“Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly, and in just the past six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT. We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.”
The key takeaway? Apple now expects the AI-powered Siri to roll out “in the coming year”—not in weeks, not in months, but at some unspecified point over the next 12 months. This wording strongly suggests a much bigger delay than previously rumored, potentially pushing the release into 2025.
Why the Delay?
While Apple hasn’t provided technical reasons for the setback, several factors could be at play:
- More complex AI development than expected – Apple’s AI ambitions for Siri involve deep contextual awareness and app integration, making the development more challenging than a simple voice assistant upgrade.
- Privacy and security concerns – Apple has a reputation for prioritizing user privacy, and ensuring that Siri’s new AI-driven features meet strict security standards may be causing additional delays.
- Competitive pressure – Apple is facing tough competition from OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft, all of whom have pushed their AI assistants forward aggressively. Apple may be taking extra time to ensure that its Siri upgrade doesn’t fall short in comparison.
What Happens Now?
While the AI-enhanced Siri is delayed, Apple still plans to bring some Apple Intelligence features to the EU next month with the iOS 18.4 update. Additionally, more language support for Apple’s AI features is expected to roll out with that update.
However, those waiting for Siri’s full AI-powered transformation, including deep app integration and a more personalized experience, will have to be patient—potentially until 2025.
